This is the Interview part of the Loose Cannons Show. Includes my mix of 'Innaday' by Eames and 'Awake Since 78' by Acid Jacks...

Random talk about stuff. Quickfire question round.

Oh and since recording, the Williams e.p. isn't happening now. Which is a shame sad

Three melodic, white noise based Bodzin-esque tracks going spare!

I've decided to post up the 30 minute electro mix I was working on in its incomplete state. Its a bit rough around the edges, but its listenable... I've just added added a couple of tracks to the begining and end to pad it out. It kinda ruins the flow... If I get more time to spend on it, I'll make it better..

Anyway, I still remember when I found my first Street Sounds Electro records in a Penzance junk shop around the age of 16... I'd never heard anything like it - well I recognised Rocket by Herbie Hancock. This was around the time I started DJ'ing "Big Beat" and these records would fit right in... Tracks like Twilight 22, Captain Rock, Aleem... Awesome Stuff!

This is a mix of some of my favourite tracks, some of which I've only recently come across. I believe they might be a tiny bit less obvious than you staple standards such as Cybotron's Clear or Al Naafiysh ( A Classic). Correct me If I'm wrong.

I wanted to keep it upbeat (It was meant to be something I could listen to down the gym !). Some tracks just wouldn't stretch that well and had to be left out, which is a shame. It cruises along at a steady 132bpm (roughly)

I wasnt around when these records came out, neither do I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre. So if some of these records are considered a bit naff, I dont care. I like them.

Sound quality varies, as you can imagine... And none of them seem to stick to a solid BPM, so were a nightmare to edit together... Like a fool I edited by hand, time stretching the tracks a few fx and sound fx too. No Ableton.. Perhaps that would make it a lot easier??

Tracklist:

Jonzun Crew - Pac Jam (Beware of The OVC)
Chris The Glove Taylor - Itchiban Scratch
Twilight 22 - Electric Kingdom
Twilight 22 - Siberian Nights
Chris The Glove Taylor and Ice T - Reckless
Jive Rhythm Trax - 122bpm
Freestyle - Dont Stop the Rock
L.A. Dream Team - Calling on the Dream Team
L.A. Dream Team - Rockberry Jam
Newcleus - Computer Age (Push The Button)
Kraftwerk - Tour De France (Remix Francais)
Jonzun Crew - We Are the Jonzun Crew
Jonzun Crew - Space is the Place

Some fo this shit is still uber fresh:

Found this whilst researching my next mix.. PROPER!!

Here is a short montage of Drum and Bass I made on my Amiga in my youth...

From my myspace blog:

Hello,

When I was a lickle yout I used to make Drum and Bass / Jungle records on my Amiga - 4 channels of 8-Bit samples using Octamed, a 'tracker' program (Ask your Dad). All of this was stored on Floppy disks, not even the high density ones you use on a pc. They held 800k.

Other fun things included 2 channels being panned hard left and 2 hard right. No Eq'ing or VST effects here. No effects at all. Except ones you could enter via Hex Codes!!

In fact this is where I got my name from, the fact I used 8 bit samples on my amiga, nerdy I know. Its stuck ever since. It suggests i'm part of the whole Nes, GB, C64 ting - which I love to bits, but isn't really what my music is 100 percent about i.e. I dont soley use a gameboy or something, more take influence from... erm.

Yes

Annnnyhow, here is a poorly put together 10min mega mix of my Greatest moments as a D&B Producer....

Some bits are unfinished, some bits are out of time, some levels are off - I dont care I was young - made between the ages of 16 - 18... Happy days. Sounds better than what I make now...

Hear Boy 8-Bit get busy with Amen Breaks!!

Next up Boy 8-Bit does Big Beat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe

A 30 minute mix I did for Sonny Whartons Radio Show - from my myspace blog:

My first ever 30 minute mix tape will be aired on Sonny Whartons show on pulse radio next Thursday the 28th of September between 11pm and 1am

http://www.pulseradio.net

Please find the tracklisting below or in my blog.

Once its aired I will upload it for you to download, if you so please.

No Ableton used, done on a computer of course, but all edited by hand. Call me an idiot. All errors pops, glitches, crackles and scrapes are intentional. I just wanted to make something interesting rather than 10 records mixed into each other..

Cheers,

Boy 8-Bit

Get the mix HERE
